Re WiFi

Dear Parents, Re: WIFI. Following on from Ms Costello’s & Tom Sherlock’s (Chairperson of the BOM) recent correspondence regarding the WiFi in the school, it has come to the attention of the parents’ association that a petition has been circulating the school looking to have the WiFi switched off. I would like to reiterate what the recent reports stated. Both the Health and Safety Authority (HSA) and ComReg carried out separate investigations on the WiFi in the school and both found St Brigid’s to be completely safe and poses no risk to the health of our children and the staff.

In summary, the HSA report states the following;

“The report confirms compliance both with the occupational safety requirements of the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (Electromagnetic Fields) Regulations 2016 and with the more stringent public exposure limits set by the International Commission on Non-lonising Radiation Protection (ICNIRP1). Accordingly I am satisfied to conclude that there is no evidence of risks to health arising from Electromagnetic Field (EMF) sources in the school.”

The ComReg report states;

“The 23 routers were found to be compliant for the purposes of the RED2 and to be otherwise lawfully installed and operated and ComReg, following its assessment, does not consider that any further action is warranted”.

If anyone would like to receive copies of the full reports please contact the office.

Kind regards,

Niamh Coyle
