Fred O’Connell Award

Congratulations to St Brigid’s Parents’ Association who were awarded Joint 1st Place in the National Parents’ Council’s Fred O’Connell Award. This took place at the NPC Education Conference on June 16, 2018 in the National College of Ireland. They received this award for the work of the Digital and ICT Committee. In consultation and co-operation with the Principal and ICT co-ordinating teachers, the team is engaged in devising and implementing a programme to equip students with IT skills in order to support their broader educational experience. Their aim is to create a self-sustaining programme guided by the school and the parental team to support digital education going forward.
The written submission for this award was prepared by Janet Watters, Tríona Driscoll and Amanda Fulmer. Many thanks to Aisling Carroll who proof read it and past pupil Sébastien Fulmer who edited the video. The team would also like to thank the stars of the video submission: Aisling and Conan, Rian and Erin, Shauna, Niamh and Dax.
Most recently members of the Parents’ Association Digital and ICT group completed desktop, Word and PowerPoint sessions with 4th Class, Rooms 17 and 19. The PA Digital and ICT group want to thank lecturers Aisling Carroll and Barbara Beatty and all the parent support team: Janet Carey, Andrea Gummersbach, Mary Daly, Lana Galina (and her son past pupil Nicky Danilova), Elaine Killilea, Rosalind King, Fiona Lang, Vicky Sheldrick and the project co-ordinators Amanda Fulmer and Janet Watters. Without all their hard work and commitment none of this would have been possible.
Plans are afoot to increase the number of laptops so that there would be one for each child in a class timetabled to work on. A group of parents are working with the school laptops from an operational perspective to ensure successful and effective use during whole class sessions. We would like to thank parents Milan Podhrazsky, Niall Harrison, Adil Touati , Ruairi O’Sullivan who recently came on board to offer us their expertise.
We are so lucky in our Parents’ Association here in St. Brigid’s and we value the involvement of parents. Any parent would like to participate in this Digital and ICT project going forward should contact Janet Waters c/o the school office.
Have you got a skill that could help this project? Any suggestions, ideas that could benefit our children going forward will be considered. We are looking for persons with a variety of IT skills and background that share our common vision; skills such as multi-media, coding, IT lecturing or operational support.
