Newsletter 22 – Feb 23rd, 2024

Dear Parents/ Guardians,

Our first week back after Midterm and what a busy week it has been.

Between Vision and Hearing Tests, First Confession, Swimming Lessons and Internet Safety Talks not to mention  the day to day routine of teaching and learning the school has been a hive of activity. We wouldn’t have it any other way.

Our World is in Safe Hands –   Greystones Tidy Towns volunteers and their supporters were out in force recently to plant 655 trees at a community day seeking to restore the natural habitat adjacent to the Three Trouts Stream. Among the volunteers were three of our 6th Class students (Ciarán, Elliott and Mia). Maith sibh a pháistí.  We are so proud of you all.

Céad Mile Fáilte – The boys and girls in Room 11 were delighted to welcome Tessa Cullen to their class this week. We hope she will be very happy at St. Brigid’s.

Gaeilge – Frásaí na Seachtaine  # 20  – This week’s phrase is: “Tóg amach ———/Tógaigí amach ________”  “Take out ——————“

Birthday Greetings –– Celebrating birthdays at our school this week are Liara Rose Chimbganda (5yrs), Cillian Bassul Thornton (5yrs), Jack Mullen (6yrs), Shawna Megannety (12yrs), Amelia Mitchell (9yrs), Clara Aston Brownbill (7yrs), Jessica Milligan (12yrs), Lilah O’ Brien (11 yrs) and Teddy O’ Reilly (9yrs). We wish them all a very happy birthday and hope they enjoy their special day.

Let’s make every school day count. School Attendance this week was 93.8%.

Ireland Reads Day on Saturday, the 24th of February. The aim is to get everyone to ‘get lost in a good book’ on the 24th of February, Ireland Reads Day – whether that’s reading a book, a newspaper, a comic – whatever works.

There are lots of events taking place in libraries across the country too so please visit www.irelandreads.ie, or check in with your local library.

Ireland Reads is a campaign from Irish libraries, Adult Literacy for Life, Children’s Books Ireland, Age Friendly Ireland, booksellers, publishers and others to get the whole country reading. This is an initiative of the government of Ireland funded by Healthy Ireland.

Choice of Confirmation Family Reconciliation Services – The dates for the designated services are Wed 21st Feb, Wed 28th Feb and Wed 1st March in St. Anthony’s Church Kilcoole at 6pm. Families can choose which of the services they would like to attend.  This is a general reconciliation service, there will not be individual confessions at this service.

First Confession 2024 – Congratulations to the boys and girls from St. Brigid’s who made their First Confession in St. Anthony’s Church last night.  It was a lovely ceremony and marks the penultimate step in their journey to First Communion.

6th Class Photos The boys and girls in Rooms 16, 17 and 19 will have their photos taken for the End of Yearbook on Monday 26th Feb and Wednesday 28th February. They will also have their class photo taken on the day. They must wear their school uniform for these photo shoots.

6th Class School Outing – A lovely treat in store for our three 6th classes next Tuesday 27th February. Saint David’s TY Students are putting on the Musical “The Addams Family” and our senior classes have tickets to attend the 11.00am performance. It should be an enjoyable experience.

Boys 11 Aside Football – Mr. Molloy and a parent volunteer will accompany a team of our senior boys to Bray next Friday 29th February for an 11 Aside Football Blitz. We hope they have a great day.
