Two boys teams played in the FAI football blitz on Wednesday 13th March. Both teams acquitted themselves very well, played fairly and competitively and were a joy to be around and coach. They are a great group of young lads.
Both teams played extremely well in their groups, with one team topping their group and the other team coming second in their group. Some excellent teamwork and great goals on show from both groups of players.
The team that won their group were then through the quarter finals where they dispatched a strong Educate Together side with ease, 4-0. Unfortunately they would come up against a very physical Baltinglass team in the semi finals and whilst they acquitted themselves well, it wasn’t to be their day and they were knocked out. St Gerard’s then went on the win the competition in the final in a penalty shootout.
In closing, a super day, great sportsmanship, a wonderful attitude from all the players and everyone represented their school with pride.
Thanks to Paul Williams and Keith McCabe also for their coaching wisdom.
