Newsletter 15 – Dec 18th, 2023

Dear Parents/ Guardians,

Christmas is almost here. Only a week to go. Can you believe it?

Junior Assembly Colouring Competition Well done to all the boys and girls who participated in the recent Junior Assembly Colouring Competition at the school. The standard of entry was extremely high, and I know that Ms. Purcell had a difficult task judging the pictures.  Congratulations to Katie Grace (Room 1), Emer (Room 2), Lily (Room 3), Ciara (Room 4), Jack (Room 5), Ioana (Room 6), Gabriella (Room 7), Chloe (Room 8), Eugenie (Room 9) and Jacob (Room 10) who put great effort into their colouring and were the overall winners. Their pictures are on display in our hall if you wish to have a look.

Infant and 1st Class Christmas Plays Well done to the boys and girls in our Junior Infants, Senior Infants and First Classes who put on their Nativity Plays for their parents and families last week.  The boys and girls were amazing. Maith sibh a pháistí. We are so lucky to have you all in our school.

5th, and 6th Class Christmas Carol ServiceCongratulations to all the boys and girls in our 5th and 6th classes on their wonderful performance at our annual Christmas Carol Service in Holy Rosary Church last Thursday evening. From all accounts this was a very special night, and I was so sorry to have missed it. A special thank you to all our 5th and 6th class teachers and to Joan from Music Generation who made this night possible.

Christmas Jumper Day in Aid of SVP – The children can wear a Christmas jumper or Christmas accessory to school on Friday 22nd December in aid of the St. Brigid’s SVP Christmas Collection. Thank you to everyone who has given so generously to the 2023 Collection so far. To date we have raised €1,828.00 which is phenomenal.  This will go a long way to providing support for families in Greystones who are struggling this Christmas. Mile buíochas arís.

Trips to the TheatreThere’s nothing quite like a Christmas movie to get you in the Christmas spirit. Infants to 6th will be heading off to the Whale Theatre for a Christmas Movie Theatre experience next Wednesday and next Thursday.

  • Infants, 1st, 2nd and 3rd classes will go to the Whale Theatre on Wednesday 21st December to see the movie “The Star”.
  • 4th, 5th and 6th classes will go to the Whale Theatre on Thursday 21st December to see the movie “Polar Express”.

Happy Birthday – 11 children celebrated birthdays at the school last week. They are Jessica Tierney (11yrs), Robyn Deery (12yrs), Millie Pike(9yrs), Ellen Mullen (9yrs), Holly Brennan (5yrs)), Lucy Carney (8yrs), Darragh Holohan (11yrs), Dhyana Kansagra (11yrs), Cian Loftus (8yrs), William Michael (8yrs) and Samuel Browne (5yrs). Happy birthday to you all and enjoy your special day.

Gaeilge – Frásaí na Seachtaine  # 12  – This week’s phrase is: “An bhfuil cead agam an fhuinneog a oscaily? Tá/Níl” (May I open the window? Yes/No)

School Calendar The last of the school Calendars (€15) are available to purchase from the school office. The Calendars would make a lovely present for someone special at Christmas.

Advent 2023 – Sunday  the 17th December was  the third Sunday of Advent. The Third Sunday of Advent is known as “Gaudete Sunday.” Gaudete means “rejoice!” We can mark the day by engaging in family activities that can inject some joy into our homes.

Fáilte ar ais– We welcome Ms. Woodcock back to school today. I know the boys and girls in Room 9 are excited about her return. A big thank you to Ms. McNally who has been covering for her since the Halloween Break.

Christmas Holidays – Friday 22nd December marks the beginning of the school Christmas holidays. Junior Infants, Senior Infants and their siblings will finish up at 12.10pm on this day and 1st to 6th will finish up at 12.30pm. The school will reopen for the new term on Monday 8th January.

Finally, we appreciate that Christmas can be an expensive and stressful time for families. If we can help in any way, please don’t hesitate to contact us. All communication will be treated with the utmost confidence.

Le meas.
