Newsletter 35 – 14th June 2024

Dear Parents/ Guardians,

I hope you have all had a good week despite the weather. It being Active School’s Week, the week has been all about sport as you might expect.

A big thank you to Ms. Murray, and Cormac for organizing another great Active School’s Week at the school.

Monday

  • The week kicked off with the 2024 Basketball Final which is always one of the highlights of the year.  The light showers failed to dampen the spirits of our 2nd to 6th class pupils as they gathered to watch the Timber Wolves take on the Washington Wizards on Monday. It was a nail-biting final with the Timber Wolves winning out on the day. Congratulations to both teams who showed true sportsmanship throughout the game and were presented with medals afterwards. It is a game they will never forget.
  • 6th class vs Teachers – A much anticipated game at our school every year and it did not disappoint again this year. The atmosphere was electric as the 6th class took on the teachers in a fiercely competitive match. In the end the teachers won by a few points, but the 6th class pupils can be so proud of how well they played.
  • Dance – Due to popular demand Saran was invited back again this year to do dance with all our classes from Infants to 6th class. It was lovely to see the children showing their creative side as they danced along to the music.

Tuesday – On Tuesday 4th to 6th did yoga with Jo Quinn which they really enjoyed. One 5th class parent even mentioned that when his son came home from school on Tuesday he asked if they could do yoga at home.

Wednesday – Congratulations to the thirty-six boys and girls from 2nd to 6th who took part in the Wicklow Races on Wednesday. They returned to the school laden with medals for many events including the girls and boys relay races. Stars in the making for sure!!

Thursday

  • The Junior Sports Day took place yesterday at the school. Unfortunately, the weather Gods were not shining on us and we were left with no option but to have an Indoor Sports Day.  Cormac pulled out all the stops to ensure the children had the best day under the circumstances.  The children received rosettes at the end of the day and went home tired but happy.
  • Boys Soccer Blitz in Bray – Twenty of our 5th and 6th class boys headed off to Ballywaltrim yesterday to participate in a local Soccer Blitz. In trying conditions, the boys got stuck in and played to the best of their ability. Maith sibh a bhuachaillí. Thank you to Ms. Murray and parents Keith McCabe and Paul Williams who accompanied them on the day.

Friday Thank God we have gotten a better day for our Senior Sports Day today.  I am sure the children will have a great day having seen the plans Cormac has put in place.

Birthday Greetings There are 5 children celebrating birthdays at the school this week. They are Amelie Hearne (13yrs), Emma MacManus(13yrs), Louis Dalton (13yrs) , Matthew English (6yrs) and Alex Doyle(7yrs). We wish them all a very happy birthday and best wishes for the year ahead.

50th Celebration – Friday 21st June – An email was sent to all families earlier in the week about this. A big ask I know, but all we need now is for the sun to shine on the day. Fingers crossed.
